At any given time, there are a handful of motivated college students in the D+P internship program. We recently sat down with Cassidy Gavaghan, one of our Monday & Wednesday interns, for a quick Q&A session. Read on below to learn more about Cassidy!
Give us a little bit of background about yourself!
I am a rising junior at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey studying Public Relations and Journalism with a minor in Sports Communication. I am a member of the women’s golf program there which takes up a lot of my time. Aside from that, I participate in the Monmouth Student Athletics Advisory club which assists with a lot of the athletic events on campus. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family as well as reading or watching different shows on Netflix or Hulu.
Describe yourself in three words.
If I were to describe myself in 3 words, it would be inquisitive, outgoing, and curious.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was growing up, I wanted to be a collegiate level athletic director. I thought it would be an interesting job where you were always immersed in sports and the logistics of each team. Now, I am still very involved in the sports world, however, my interests have definitely shifted.
What’s something few people knew about you, but you wish they did?
Something very few people know about me is that I spent nine years of my life in the suburbs of Chicago. It does not come up in conversation a lot if I am being honest, but Chicago is a nice, clean city that more people should put on their list to explore.
If you could give a piece of advice to your high school/younger self, what would it be?
If I could give a piece of advice to my high school or younger self, it would be to branch out opposed to staying in your area of comfort. This is the only way to grow and build upon yourself and skill base. You barely learn anything by staying within the confines of your comfort zone.
