We connected with our latest cohort of D+P interns for a quick Q&A session. Read on below to learn more about Mariel, our spring PR intern!
Give us a little bit of background about yourself!
I graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science in music industry. Previously, I interned at a PR company representing a variety of musicians, primarily focused on independent artists. There, I realized my passion for PR, and I’m so excited to gain more PR experience here at D+P.
Describe yourself in three words.
Optimistic, creative and passionate.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Like many three-year-old girls, I wanted to be a ballerina, which led to about 14 years of ballet lessons. I finally gave it up to spend more time doing musical theatre in high school – by that point, I was certain I’d be a singer and an actress. I’m still very passionate about music, so I majored in the music industry, combining both my creative and business sides.
What’s something few people knew about you, but you wish they did?
I like to use perfumes to relive moments. If I’m going on a trip, I’ll buy a travel size for that occasion. Smell is strongly tied to memory, so whenever I smell a perfume, feelings and memories I had from that time come flooding back to me. I’ll also do this seasonally. For instance, wearing a certain perfume all summer so I’ll remember exactly what that time of year felt like. You could say I’m a very nostalgic and sentimental person.
If you could give a piece of advice to your high school/younger self, what would it be?
Life won’t happen on its own! If you want to accomplish something, you have to take the steps to accomplish it.
