We connected with our latest cohort of D+P interns for a quick Q&A session. Read on below to learn more about Nadia, our spring PR intern!
Give us a little bit of background about yourself!
Hello, my name is Nadia McGrath! I’m originally from San Francisco, but I’ve lived in Philadelphia for over four years because I attended the University of Pennsylvania. I recently graduated with degrees in communication and visual studies. I also minored in Italian studies and am a lover of languages, with French and Russian in my toolkit.
Describe yourself in three words.
Empathetic, creative and persistent.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
For many years, my younger self wanted to be a veterinarian because animals (especially dogs) hold an enormous amount of space in my heart, but I quickly realized that caring for them outside of the vet is likely a better experience for everyone involved. The one thread that has remained consistent throughout my life is a love of art, which led me to want to be an artist growing up and continues to push me to seek creativity in all that I do.
What’s something few people knew about you, but you wish they did?
I’m quite resourceful when I want to be. I taught myself how to handbind a notebook to make a gift for a friend, learned body painting on YouTube at 12 years old, and figured out how to make molds and casts of faces to sculpt prosthetics for special effects makeup.
If you could give a piece of advice to your high school/younger self, what would it be?
To take more chances and explore more of what every experience, opportunity and moment has to offer!
