We connected with our latest cohort of D+P interns for a quick Q&A session. Read on below to learn more about Ryan, our Summer Public Relations Intern!
Give us a little bit of background on yourself!
Hi! My name is Ryan Myers, and I am a rising senior at Syracuse University studying public relations and psychology, with minors in voice performance and data analytics. I am from Kennett Square, PA, the mushroom capital of the world! On campus, I am an account supervisor for Hill Communications, Newhouse’s student-run PR firm, and the president of Otto Tunes A Cappella. Last summer, I had the opportunity to intern for the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. Not only did this experience combine my passions for music and communications, but it also introduced me to D+P!
Describe yourself in three words.
I am creative, versatile and patient.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
When I was growing up, I wanted to be an author or a musician. I plan to keep making music, but most of my writing will be for strategic communications.
What’s something few people know about you, but you wish they did?
I’m obsessed with the sport of disc golf! My dad and I started playing in 2020, during the pandemic, and I haven’t looked back. Disc golf doubles as a solitary and a social sport, and the professional tour and media scenes are quickly growing. Plus, it’s a fun way to be outside and enjoy nature.
If you could give a piece of advice to your high school/younger self, what would it be?
Get involved! Exploring a new interest or activity introduces you to other people and teaches you about yourself. Even if you dislike something and pivot, it’s important to expand your comfort zone.
