In the field of public relations, I see the benefit, day in and day out, of getting news from a variety of different sources. I firmly believe that you shouldn’t limit yourself to one source but instead have a vast repertoire to choose from on a daily basis. A great way to do this is to follow each news source, or individual journalist, on Twitter.

One source I have been getting a lot of my news from is Vox.com, which launched in April 2014. Vox.com is an online news source that exists under its parent company, Vox Media. In addition to Vox.com, Vox Media is home to several other well-known publications, including: Curbed, Eater, Polygon, Racked, SB Nation, Re/code, and The Verge.

Vox.com started out with the tagline, “Everything you need to know, in two minutes.” While it has held to that model, particularly through its “Vox Explainers” section, its current description on Twitter @voxdotcom is “Understand the news.”

Ezra Klein, Vox.com’s editor in chief, explains the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

When I want the full details of a breaking news story explained to me as quickly as possible, Vox.com is usually one of my first stops. If I want to read a very credible, well-written description of that same breaking news, The New York Times is a go-to for me. It really just depends on the story. Never discount a great blog, either. There is a reason Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight is world-renowned.

One of my favorite questions to ask either during an interview or at a meeting is, “Where is your favorite place to get the news?” In my opinion, as long as you’re getting it, there isn’t really a wrong answer.
