The Challenge

Congressional medal of Honor Society logoThe Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s mission is to foster national awareness of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for military valor, and inspire everyday civilians to live out the Medal’s values – courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism. One of the Society’s greatest opportunities for achieving this goal is on March 25 of each year when the nation recognizes National Medal of Honor Day. In 2024, the Society sought to use earned and owned content to tell the story of the Medal and the ways that ordinary Americans can be inspired by the Recipients.

The Approach

D+P developed an integrated strategy involving content creation and media relations to help the Society drive awareness about National Medal of Honor Day and the days leading up to it. D+P embedded staff members in New York City, Indianapolis and Washington, D.C., as brand reporters to produce written, video and photographic content. D+P interviewed Recipients as they attended various events,  participated in memorial ceremonies, and networked with key stakeholders in each city. Our content turned into live blog articles and social media posts for the Society, which we pitched to regional and national outlets.

The Results

D+P produced six blog articles and a variety of multimedia content for the Society’s blog and social media on the key events and experiences during Medal of Honor Week. Stars and Stripes, a leading national military publication with more than 1.2 million unique monthly visitors, used one of D+P’s video for a story recapping a wreath-laying ceremony on March 25, 2024, at Arlington National Cemetery.
